What are the main causes or are of focus for rotary's service work?

Rotary focuses on key areas where volunteers can make a real and lasting difference in communities around the world.

These include promoting peace, where we help build understanding, support mediation and empower young leaders to prevent conflict and foster harmony across cultures; fighting disease, by educating and equipping communities to stop deadly illnesses such as polio, HIV/AIDS and malaria and by improving access to affordable health care in developing regions; providing clean water, sanitation and hygiene, working alongside local leaders to deliver sustainable water and sanitation solutions rather than simply short-term fixes; improving maternal and child health, because millions of mothers and children still suffer from preventable illnesses and poor care and Rotary supports efforts to give them a stronger chance at healthy lives; supporting education and literacy, by strengthening community capacity to provide basic education, reducing gender disparity in schooling and helping adults gain literacy—so the benefits ripple through generations; growing local economies, by investing in community development, creating decent work opportunities for youth and adults, and empowering entrepreneurs and especially women in underserved areas; and finally protecting the environment, the newest of our focus areas, where Rotary members develop projects and policy-links to respond to issues like climate change, resource-stewardship and sustainable development.

By working in these strategic areas, Rotary clubs worldwide—and in your local community here in Ethiopia—can align their efforts with a broader vision of sustainable impact. At the same time, clubs are able to tailor projects to meet local needs and priorities, ensuring that what is done in a village, town or city fits that specific context and makes real difference. This dual approach—global vision + local relevance—gives Rotary its strength, enabling volunteers to connect their efforts with something much bigger, while remaining responsive to the unique challenges of the place they serve
